Invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1801, the Jacquard loom is a mechanical loom designed to simply the process of creating complex textiles. Cards with punched holes are inserted into the machine for the design of the textile to be string together. It was the first machine to use punched cards to control the order of a sequence of operations. It is an important moment in the history of computers even though no computing is required for the loom to function.
